2025 Brigantes Breakfast - Scarborough Spa

The Brigantes Breakfast provides the perfect opportunity for Liverymen from all City of London Companies, and their guests, to meet together in the North. Previous venues include St George’s Hall, Liverpool; Royal Hall, Harrogate; Tower Ballroom, Blackpool; and Royal Armouries, Leeds.

Our Reception in Scarborough Spa commences at 11.45, in the Sun Pavilion, moving into lunch with Principal Guests including our after-lunch speaker and fellow Brigantian, Judith Donovan CBE; and our guest lecturer Dr Gervase Phinn. Grace will be said by the Right Revd Barry Hill, Bishop of Whitby.

Dress code is lounge suits. Current Livery Masters will be processing. Badges of Office may be worn.

Lunch is preceded by our Brigantes Lecture, which will begin at 10.30 in the Spa Theatre, Scarborough Spa. This year’s speaker will be Yorkshireman Dr Gervase Phinn. Gervase was born in Rotherham and is an author and educator. After a career as a teacher, he became a schools inspector and, latterly, Visiting Professor of Education at the University of Teesside. He has published several volumes of memoir, collections of poetry and a number of books about education.

Our entertainment will include music from Yorkshire Wolds Versatile Brass and The Shamrock Experience.

For Liverymen and their guests, the cost for this very special day in the Livery calendar is £145.00 pp. Places will be allocated on a first come first served basis. The formal proceedings will close at 16:25, with a post prandial paid bar in the Sun Court up to 18:15.

Scarborough is well served by rail from London, Manchester and the north. Travellers from London will need to get a train from King’s Cross and change in York. Scarborough Spa is 5 minutes by taxi, or 15 minutes’ walk, from the station.
